Ambient Generative AI: Deploying Latent Diffusion Models on Mobile NPUs

Lech Kalinowski will present a fully functional generative AI system running entirely offline on a smartphone, using ambient light sensor data to control image generation without text prompts. The session walks through the full pipeline, from signal capture and stabilization to latent space mapping, local inference, and telemetry, all accelerated on mobile NPUs.
The talk focuses on practical results and engineering decisions behind making this work on-device. The system achieved a median latency less than a second, full runtime utilization, and reliable performance across tests. Work demonstrates a measurable link between light intensity and generated image brightness. This work proves that sensor-driven, zero-prompt generative systems can run efficiently on mobile hardware without relying on the cloud.
