Live Dev Session: React Universe Conf, RN 1.0, Expo Updates & More
Week 37 of our Live Dev Session had plenty of ground to cover. We opened with React Universe Conf (venue, merch, vibe, and presentations), joined by Szymon Chmal for extra insights.
Of course, there was the regular AI rant from Kewin: why AI is never objective, what to watch out for, and opinion about model-first approach.
React Native 1.0 was another big topic. We asked what React Native would need to truly be considered 1.0, looked at how the team has automated and improved the release cycle, and discussed the new Nightly program for popular libraries.
On the Expo side, we saw beta support for Xcode 26 in EAS, autolinking fixes, and shared our experiences with the shifting Expo landscape.
React Native itself is evolving quickly, too: new proposals for documenting native APIs and the removal of Legacy Arch are big steps forward.
And, as always, a bunch of smaller but fun discussions: setTimeout/setInterval quirks, Nitro & Turbo Modules, Expo migrations, and JSI bindings.
