Amazon has entered the OS space with Vega OS, a new platform in development for over three years. Giovanni Laquidara, Senior Developer Evangelist, explains the architecture and strategy.

Vega OS is a lightweight operating system designed specifically for performance, particularly on low-end devices. The key feature for the developer ecosystem is that it has React Native built in.

Amazon chose this stack because React Native is one of the most-used frameworks for TV and media apps. This approach allows the existing community to build for a new platform using "all the skills that they already have," bypassing a steep learning curve.
